Current Saints 53 man roster after cuts

Let's get this correct fellas. You can't just say stuff because Hill isn't battling for a slotted position on the depth chart. He is a QB whether you see it as so or not.

Facts over Feelings. Facts over Thoughts and Opinions. TH7 is listed by the Saints as a QB. By definition of league rule, He is a "Bona Fide" QB.

Accept That As A FACT!

Question:
What is the definition of a Bona Fide Quarterback?

Answer:
For the purposes of the Emergency Third Quarterback rule, A Bona Fide Quarterback Is Defined as a player who wears a jersey number authorized for a quarterback and (a) is an established quarterback (e.g., someone who has customarily played the position in past professional or college seasons); or (b) is a player who takes regular-season snaps only at quarterback during at least three consecutive weeks of practice, including any week the player would be listed as an Emergency Third Quarterback.

Taysom Hill is Listed as a Quarterback on the Saints Official Team Roster.

Why does this matter and why is it important?

The Saints listed Taysom Hill as a QB again in 2023 to possibly take advantage of the new EQB3 rule. The QBs on the roster were Carr, Winston, and Hill. They wouldn't have used it with Hill because he wouldn't have been able to see the field in all of his other roles. They could have used it with Winston which would have given JW a gameday roster exemption and allowed the Saints to carry another player on the gameday roster.

The Saints didn't use the EQB3 designation at all in 2023.

The Saints 2024 53-man roster as of now has 4 Quarterbacks on it, Carr, Haener, Rattler, and Hill.

The EQB3 rule as it currently stands say that if a team has 4 Quarterbacks on the 53-man roster the team Can Not use one of them as the EQB3.

As it stands now, the Saints won't be able to use the EQB3 roster exemption on any one of the current QBs on the roster, as long as there are 4 on it.

Provided that the Saints continue to keep all 4 players on the 53-man roster, the Saints most likely will have Carr, Hill, and either Haener or Rattler active on the gameday roster. Either Haener or Rattler will be a healthy scratch as a gameday Inactive player.

If Carr gets injured in a game, we most likely will see the young active QB finish the game, so that Hill can continue his multi-roles but with a heavier dose of TH7 in the QB position to take some of the pressure off of the youngster. If Carr were to get injured and miss game(s), the Saints would then have Carr as Inactive with Hill, Haener, and Rattler active. One of the two youngsters would most likely start but could be replaced by the other if the first one struggles.

Here's hoping that Carr remains healthy in 2024 and balls out!

I'm not just saying stuff. Regardless of how he is listed, he took a few reps at QB in OTAs but there is not a single report of his actually taking reps running the new offensive scheme during training camp. He did run some Wildcat and they have "Taysom plays" but he's not really being used as a QB. And, since they switched the entire offensive system, he has zero experience running the new offense as a QB. That is unless you count the "Taysom" plays which are really just Wildcat plays with some wrinkles thrown in to keep the defense honest.

Taysom simply can't start a game or even come in to finish a game without having worked in the new system. It's not the old days where he knew the Payton system and had plenty reps in it so he could be used as a legit QB. If they ever use him to close out a game it will just be to run out the clock in the Wildcat or on a trick play.

How he is listed on the roster is only of interest to fantasy football players.
