Panthers @ Saints ~ Preview

I will ask this here ...
I had a number "3" on my chat icon the other day.
I clicked on it, but found no chats.
There is now a "0" ( zero ) on the icon.
I don't recall ever seeing a number on this icon.
Is this a new practice on the forum ?
