I think it has to do with the audience being primarily composed of (at the time) "newer" wrestling fans (post-nWo, post-Attitude era, post-Goldberg, etc.). Among long-time wrestling fans, the scissors story is famous.

But did you know about it as it happened? I knew folks still in the business at the time and didn't know until a week later.
