TENNIS ( An All Year Round General Thread )

Well, it is awesome but not quite as awesome as that.. the pics of the place i played at with the covered courts is a new, very nice facility on the outskirts of Bangkok with 6 covered courts.. but, importantly- they are not air conditioned.. and the weather here in BKK is NOLA-level heat & humidity, if not worse.. apparently there is only one place here with air conditioned courts and it’s almost impossible to get a court there.. and tbh , the covered courts without AC are hot as balls so it doesn’t make a ton of sense to me to have them covered.. still , it’s a really nice place .

Played at a different place this morning (it’s about 12:30pm on Friday as i type this)- that i actually like better b/c it has outdoor courts, and if im gonna sweat my tail off, id rather actually be getting some sun as well, if that makes any sense …. As far as NOLA, the last time i checked the only air conditioned courts in the area were at the Hilton Riverside & Towers at the foot of Canal St.. i strongly considered joining circa 5 yrs ago but it was super expensive to join that gym (to get access to the courts) and I wasn’t playing enough tennis to make it worthwhile.. there may be some air conditioned courts on the Northshore though, im not familiar with the tennis scene there .

I kid not....there was a Winn Dixie that closed at foot of Causeway bridge that a group of us "tinkered" with the idea of leasing to do indoor facility. It was large enough to fit 6 courts with a circular bar/seating area in the middle. I still kinda wished i would have pushed the others a bit harder to really sit down and plan this thing out because between renting courts to pros, HS practice and general public, along with bar/food/seating....what could have been.

Its just here, IIRC, in order to host USTA/Junior events, you must have a minimum of 8 courts and you just couldnt fit 8 courts. ( with spectator areas too ) So that would have hampered ability to do tournaments and bring in additional revenue.

Beau Chene has 2 indoor, but they STAY booked year round.

Ah well hopefully someone comes along with way more risk taking and money than i will ever have and create an indoor facility. Would be really nice on 40 degree days with 20mph winds that i not stand at net with one hand in shorts, freezing my ears off.
