Frankie Beverly, lead singer of Maze, dead at 77

When a Dr John or a Neville passes, it’s an impact bc their musical footprint was so big
But a Frankie Beverly- like gatemouth or frogman, et al - should make us take a moment to reflect. They are the true backbone of NO music
NO music is notable bc the headliners are amazing, but it’s the bench depth that makes the music truly outstanding
Unfortunately I don’t know much about the local scene - Soul Rebels and Royal Fingerbowl were the last acts I really paid attention to- but I really hope we’ve got acts stepping up and filling in the holes created by the passing of local legends
