That Derek Carr Contract is Looking Pretty Brilliant Now
This is a point I’ll continue to make so long as Carr’s contract is a point of discussion, but
A large chunk of this fanbase got hung up on the fact that the contract is bigger than the blockbuster deal Drew Brees signed back in 2012. Their thought was “that number is bigger than the one Brees got, so he better play better than Brees” when one quarterback in NFL history plays at/above Brees’ level, and he was selected one slot before the Saints drafted Marshon Lattimore.
I don’t know if they thought the front office would be able to nickel-and-dime Jameis Winston with 2 year, $8 million contracts forever or something, but if so that was never gonna happen. Somebody was going to get that money. It’s fine that Carr did. That contract was a bargain when it was signed, is a bargain today, and it’ll be a bargain the day it concludes.
