Pass coverage lapses is the difference between 2-2 and 4-0

I talk all the time about lucky coin flip games being the difference between being a big time, championship team versus being a mere mortal…we have lost two of these in a row.

Feels like no big deal on the surface and we do have plenty of time to make it up, but odds are, whether we do make the playoffs or don’t, I promise you we will be looking back at these two back to back games as something that screwed us out of either a playoff berth or much better seeding.

We just drop too many of these. We are missing that little “extra” that good teams seem to figure out how to exert and win these sorts of games.

I think that little extra is usually either an elite pass rusher who gets the sacks that stop drives or two minute drills or a QB that extends drives and gets TDs in two minute drills at the end of the half and at the end of a a game. We lack both of those. It's why everyone wants a franchise QB and pass rushers and why they both go so high in drafts.

And I do think that DA struggles with game management at the end of games and doing things like making sure you get the last possession of each half. So that is some of it.

As a result, this team isn't good enough to make up for dumb mistakes like fumbling a punt return inside the 2 or throwing a pick 6 after double clutching a screen pass.
