2024 Tropical Weather Thread

This is the kind of thing many people went through. They were in their homes and as the water got worse and worse, they became cut off from being able to walk away - so they were entirely at the mercy of their home’s foundation. If it gave way, it became an urgent emergency. Luckily this person had a life jacket and was able to get clear and get to land. I think many did not end up so fortunate. And I’m sure in many cases it happened more quickly and violently than this video. And at night.

I’m pretty sure this is what happened to the guy from Mandeville that died - I also just learned that he was roommates with one of my best friends (groomsman in my wedding).

I know the feeling of hopelessness/helplessness as you stand in your house as the water comes in. I was in my house when Hurricane Isaac pushed two feet of Lake Maurepas into my house. But, it was slow and wasn't life threatening. We just felt like we were going to be stuck in a flooded house for days. Luckily a guy with a gator boat came by to get us to dry land and poster here managed to get us from a rescue shelter and take us to my brother's house. (I've mentioned who before, but they don't like the attention.)

But, I can't imagine what it's like when the water has that much force and you know your life, and the life of your family, are in danger.
