Best Female Rock Vocalist

I remember the sound of a Dutch singer named Mariska Veres for the psychedelic rock group Shocking Blue who had a unique power to her voice. When the song Venus came out a lot of people assumed it was a male lead vocalist due to the androgynous sound of the voice (and possibly due to the subject of the lyrics).

Though her vocal skills weren't even close to the women we've been discussing, it was the perfect sound for that song. So obviously the opinions that we have about a particular singer's vocal quality can often be developed due to how well it fits with the particular songs the person is known for. Mariska's entire singing career was due to that one hit song.
