Saints at the top of Davante Adams’ wish list [Raiders trade Adams to Jets for conditional 3rd ; Jets paying Adams’ entire remaining salary]

I think the negotiate through the press with leaks is overstated. The Raiders and Adam's agents are both telling every interested team what their best offers are. If the Saints are making the best offer, then the Raiders and Adam's agents are both telling the Jets and other teams exactly what the Saints are offering, so what would be gained by leaking "strategic information" to the press?

When you're selling a house, do you leak information to the local news or do you tell all of the interested parties exactly what your best offer is? When you want a raise at work, do you "strategically leak" information to co-workers or do you talk to the people who can authorize a raise? If you're "strategically leaking" information to your co-workers to get a raise, you should seriously rethink that strategy.

Teams don’t disclose each other’s offers, what they have on the table from others, etc.

They just use coded language like “We need more…you need to come up,” etc.

When you’re in a true house-bidding situation, it’s blind bids. That’s the better comparison.

The Raiders aren’t telling the Jets “Hey we got a 2nd round offer from New Orleans, can you do better?” No, they just intimate that they need to do better…it’s why these things stall out a lot. Teams seeing who is bluffing, who may come up on their bid, etc.

ML actually spoke about this at one point, in respects to the draft.
