I think the negotiate through the press with leaks is overstated. The Raiders and Adam's agents are both telling every interested team what their best offers are. If the Saints are making the best offer, then the Raiders and Adam's agents are both telling the Jets and other teams exactly what the Saints are offering, so what would be gained by leaking "strategic information" to the press?
When you're selling a house, do you leak information to the local news or do you tell all of the interested parties exactly what your best offer is? When you want a raise at work, do you "strategically leak" information to co-workers or do you talk to the people who can authorize a raise? If you're "strategically leaking" information to your co-workers to get a raise, you should seriously rethink that strategy.
