I get it. I don't mean to comes across as one of those salary cap fanatics. I don't wear a "New Orleans Cap Space" jersey and I'm not trying to be stingy with the Saints' money. On the contrary. I want them to spend every red cent they can get their hands on when it makes sense. With Drew and SP I was a huge proponent of the all in strategy. When you have the greatest passer of a football the world has ever seen then of course, go for it. Swing for the fences. But when they stayed all in without Brees and then SP, I don't know. It stopped making as much sense for me. Going all in with the best QB and HC in franchise history was genius. Going all in with Jameis Winston and Dennis Allen, a little less so.
But the all in debate is a moot point because they have no choice now. They have to do their yearly cap magic show just to reach compliance. If you think the Saints can walk the yard with this roster and Dennis Allen then it makes sense to trade for Adams. Hell I hope you're right! Personally I think the window for the Saints to win another Super Bowl with this group is nailed shut and has been for some time. They keep trying to pry it open using cap and draft resources. At some point they might think about using those resources to build a new window.
I'm usually more optimistic than the next Who Dat. I'm even more optimistic than Optimistic Ozzy! I've pumped sunshine and rainbows from dusk till dawn for the Saints. But when it comes to the cap, trading away draft picks, and our roster I just feel like we're stuck in this weird 9 win, DA limbo.
