He's a restricted free agent next year which means if he doesn't get a new contract before the end of 2008, he would likely receive the highest tender offer of what is 2.5 million this year I believe.
They wouldn't have to franchise him until after the 2009 season. The same goes for Jahri Evans. These are reasons why I think Colston's new contract will be considered a bargain, assuming it gets done this summer. Same for Evans if they decide to extend him now.
