A.T. Perry waived (Unclaimed off waivers); Perry signs to the Broncos practice squad
Was he waived with an injury settlement? If not, the injury talk is a moot point. He's healthy.
32 teams passed on the guy in the draft for 5 rounds.
31 teams passed on the opportunity to claim him and his cheap late round draft pick contract.
There's a chance this guy isn't as good as some thought.
This is a great post.
I’ll also add that virtually all…no, actually ALL NFL receivers are capable of making highlight reel plays to get fans excited, especially the ones with size.
Just because we saw the guy make a few plays like this doesn’t make him some can’t miss prospect; he’s simply doing what an athlete of his caliber is capable of doing. Marquez Callaway was a similar type player. He can make a play and look like Randy Moss, but it’s the 2 routine plays he doesn’t make out of the 10 that has him on the fringe roster guy circuit.
The key to a great receiver is skill but also consistency, being perfect with the finite details that most amateur fan observers don’t understand about route running, and being able to make quick decisions and adjustments on the fly.
We only got to see the highlight plays. What we didn’t get to see though is him sit in the film room and hear a WR coach getting frustrated about routes being run improperly, him not running to the right hash or the right yard line in games causing a sack or busted play, or doing the wrong thing, not going in motion when he was supposed to, etc. We didn’t get to watch him practice and watch him drop easy passes here and there. We didn’t get to see him struggling to learn his playbook. We didn’t get to see him not meet his required film hours on his IPAD, so on and so on (Note: these are all just hypothetical examples of things we don’t know but plays a role in seemingly head-scratching decisions like this. I don’t know if any of it is true, but I’m willing to bet some form of it is, because otherwise he’s likely never in the dog house and also would still be on the roster and thriving).
