Spencer Rattler named starting QB ; Jay Glazer reports Rattler expected to start next 3-4 games (month) until Carr’s return

Not saying it will happen, but he said pretty much the same about Jameis when Dalton came in.

Things change. If Rattler balls out and shows he’s at the same level as Carr, you have to roll with the rookie.

l expect Rattler to struggle and not play himself into a competition to be the starter. That’s not a knock on him at all, or indicative of my thoughts on what he’s capable of longer term, just what seems most likely, both as an inexperienced rookie and the state of the offensive supporting cast.

But…

If his skill set allows him to start masking offensive inefficiencies and elevate the play of those around him - for instance, his mobility opening things up for other playmakers, his escapability taking pressure off the OL - then the conversation changes.

Carr has been hit - and hurt - quite often, since joining the Saints. If Rattler can improve at a rapid pace, and use his physical abilities to mitigate defensive pressure, I don’t see how coaches could ignore that. Carr is the more polished QB right now, but there’s an argument to make that Rattler has been given an opportunity to play himself into a consideration of being a better fit for what the offense is working with.
