I used to box and both my boys box now. I have specifically taught them to spot potential threats coming. That dude would tasted the pavement if he ran up on me like that🤣
Yeah, it’s pretty sad. Things were messed up in a lot of ways “back in the day”, but one way it was waaay better was fighting.
The unwritten and strictly enforced rules? No ganging up - one on one only. No kicking. If someone went down, you waited until they got back up. “No mas” was honored once your opponent gave it a decent go. And there were SO many fights, like almost every day even in Catholic school, that even the bigger guys got their arses kicked eventually.
And the thing is, you learn SO much from standing up for yourself both if you get your arse kicked AND if you happen to pull off a draw or even a victory when you thought a beat down was coming your way.
Now, it’s hard to tell your kids (well, grandkids for me now) to stand up for themselves in an uncontrolled situation because you don’t know if they’re going to get jumped, or stomped on when they’re down, or knifed or shot.
