I believe that it's more the case that Adams is in denial about the steep decline in his game and health over the past four years.
The last time he was productive was 2020 when he registered 9.5 sacks while with Seattle. Since then, he's either been seriously injured or totally out of synch when he's allowed to play.
For those four years, his ego has been writing checks that his body can't cash.
