What if I told you that we might be re-living the Mike Ditka era?
As with most of you, I was shocked after the first two weeks and started to believe that things were different. Unfortunately that was incorrect.
How was I convinced that we may be re-living the Ditka era?
Well it's simple..
Going into the 2022 season (DA's first year), the motto was "Keep running the show". We were all convinced that by the victory the Saints had over the Bucs (9-0 in 2021) that DA was going to keep the training rolling. I was too .
It wasn't until the good Lord allowed me to have a dream regarding the Saints. The next day I posted what I dreamed:
I dreamed that we opened up against the Colts and we quickly fell behind. Our head coach was Mike Ditka and the playcalling was completely terrible. We were down by double digit points and we kept running the ball. It was like we weren't even trying to catch up and win.
The passing game was completely simple (throwing out of the I formation) and the QB still wasn't completing passes. On one play the QB finally hit a receiver in stride and before he could score a TD, he ran out of bounds and immediately grabbed his hamstring. I was totally shocked and surprised at the outcome.
I normally have one or two a year and I post them on here so that they won't come true lol
Another bad dream
As time went on, the meaning of that dream finally hit me: Our offense wasn't going to be what I thought it was, and the head coach is going to resemble someone from our past. Well...here you have it.
What's interesting is that even under Mike Ditka, some of the football that we've seen (more so on defense) wasn't this bad.
As history tends to repeat itself, I'm curious which Ditka year are we currently re-living?
Right now i'm leaning towards 1999...Ditka's final year. We went 3-13 and won the first game against the Panthers. I believe we were close to winning the next few games, and then the wheels fell off.
The only reason why I compare the 1998 season & 2023 is because both teams had a chance at the playoffs late in the season.
As stated earlier in the thread, if history is repeating itself, then this is DA's last year. My hope is that Mickey goes with him and we get a real football GM to turn things around.
