Sad to say, calling all draft gurus
I really haven't started looking, but I will now. I'll also go with a few assumptions.
1. We won't tank. It's not how this FO operates, but the injuries and perceived team culture due to injuries/coaching that we'll end up with a fairly high pick, let's assume top 10.
2. This is not the draft to take a QB, especially when there are so many other needs.
3. LT, C, RT, Slot CB, MLB, WLB and 1 DT (Bresee) are set. QB is not set long term, but we have a veteran signed for a couple more seasons and a couple guys to observe/develop to see if they are long term answers.
4. Olave's concussions are a big issue.
5. The team does not have quality depth.
6. They got bullied in a few guys last year and all but week 1 and 2 of this season.
7. No size on the interior DL.
WR Tet McMilan is an absolute stud and he has size, something our current WRs do not have. He'd step right in and be the X, pushing Olave to a supporting role and Shaheed to a playmaker role assuming he resigns.
Jeanty is also an absolute stud. Both him and Tet would be hard to pass up considering the state of our offensive weapons. I'm not going to assume AK's future with the team, but Jeanty with AK/KM or Jeanty with KM would be a formidble backfield for KK's system. KK's system doesn't require a stud RB since that system has been proven to use all talent levels at RB to be effective. However, Jeanty is a tone setter. He'd provide an identity.
No QB in the 1st or at all in the draft. Use Houston as an example, build the offensive line, defense and skill positions first, then get the QB on a rookie deal. This works considering we have temporary options at QB and time to build around them.
The interior O-line can be addressed in the 2nd or later. Our 2nd round pick will be a high 2nd, so that is valuable and there is usually a lot of talent available there.
DT Deone Walker, Kentucky. This is what needs to be addressed. Getting bullied in the NFL is embarrasing. Putting a big run stuffer/mauler on the D-line next to Bresee will help Bresee with what he does best.
A weapon at TE. Moreau has shown that he is servicable, but he's not a playmaker. Mason Taylor out of LSU would be a nice addition to the TE room especially if we plan on going with a lot of 2 TE sets. I'd look for him outside of the 1st round.
