Time to get some guys back from Injury and make a run
that's what makes this season so interesting/bad science experiment
many said an OC change is what this team really needed
we did that and destroyed 2 teams at beginning of season (turns out to be one very bad and one very mediocre team)
then all **** breaks loose
so we have evidence - we get to argue how compelling that evidence is - but we do have evidence
so is DA bad or is he like the unluckiest coach ever?
or a bit of both?
I am completely fine with using some objectivity as well. I think he is a bit of both.
Here is what I think:
DA was unfortunate to get the Raider job early on. He was too young to get that job, and I honestly do not think they ever intended on him being there long. He was just something to fill the seat. He had no real idea what all went into that and the organization itself was in shambles. It was honestly a no-win situation for him. Nothing good was coming out of that.
Then when he gets the job here, he's following the greatest coach in our history. That is darn near impossible. Especially here where we, as a fanbase, were starved for so very long to be on top of the mountain. Once we got there, we wanted to be there every year. He took over a pretty solid roster, but it lacked a decent option at QB, and had a GM where his vision was that we could just keep things like they are and replicate Sean's success. Following the successful guy's footsteps (Sean's) was going to be hard enough, but then you choose to keep everything the same implying that DA can step in and things will keep rolling. So, you have made it way more difficult for that new coach to even duck Sean's shadow for 1 minute. Then the first season, due to the incredibly easy schedule turned out to be a failure, followed by another season where you beat up on two awful football teams and everything looks to be trending up, and then you suffer an unimaginable amount of injuries.
So yes, he has been unfortunate. That in itself is unfortunate, but that's life. At the end of the day you produce or you do not. Yes, there are injuries. Could you see Mike Tomlin's defense doing what ours has lately if they had a ton of injuries? I am talking about effort-wise. I just used him as an example, pick any really good coach, and slide his name in. There is more to the story here than bad luck according to what we are seeing on the field and the lack of effort, however, yes, he's been unfortunate.
