Reading between the lines of Alvin Kamara’s commitment to the Saints

I watched exactly zero of Mahomes College games. Was it obvious he would be a good NFL quarterback? Were there any traits that he showed in college to make somebody think he would be a good NFL quarterback? It's obvious he is now but what did he show in college? Was there not enough jumping off at our FO to make them think they needed to move up to get him, like KC did?

Interesting comments below, what convinced me that Mahomes was going to be (potentially) a great QB was the very game referenced below.....Texas Tech's offensive line was getting destroyed by a very good LSU D in that bowl game, Mahomes was running for his life the entire game and Tech couldn't run the ball (29 yards on 26 carries). LSU with Fournette ran the ball at will, with almost 400 yards on the ground.....Despite all that Mahomes threw for 370 yards and 4 TD's with only 1 pick.....I knew then he was special.....

Against those odds a 50% completion rate is outstanding IMO.....

Yeah but he was running the Texas Tech Air Raid offense which had produced other QBs with great numbers that never made it in the NFL like Cliff Kingsbury. He also didn't have a lot of success against better competition. I recall him being only like a 50% passer against LSU in a bowl game. He did have a bunch of TDs and yards in that game but 50% on passes is not good.

I think the result was that he was likely a lower first round prospect that shot up the board late. In part because Payton could not keep his mouth shut about him.
