It has been so much of our DNA for the past 16-18 years (and to an extent some years prior to Payton/Brees' arrival) that we're locked into continuing it to some extent. I do think some can kicking will be required for next year and maybe some in 2026 but I think at that point we will mostly be on the other side of it unless they do something dumb before then.

And I think the can kicking is fine if you are a contender and if you are doing it with guys in their prime. But doing it for guys like Cam, Hill, and Demario appears to be a mistake. I love those guys and Demario and Hill are still producing, but we needed to start rebuilding a few years ago. And while I think Carr is an okay QB and paid about at his level, setting yourself up to where you likely have to keep him for at least another year seems like a bad idea. But maybe a head coach candidate will like the idea of having one year of a solid veteran QB guaranteed?
