Saints trade Marshon Lattimore to the Commanders

They are worth that when the player doesn't want to be here anymore, when he's often injured and about to turn 29, and when your team won't likely be contending for the playoffs until that player is 32 or 33. Under those circumstances, you are happy with a top 100 pick and some change in addition to the salary cap space you create to rebuild your team in 2026 or 2027.

I get it, I do. I just don't agree with ever trading a top player at their respective position. The entire point of the draft is to hopefully get someone who will be amongst the best at their position by 2nd contract. And teams miss all the time. Constantly even with top 5 picks.

We eat 31 mill next year in dead money, and now we have to possibly fill that position. Adebo may not sign with us, and may lose a step due to his injury. There are no guarantee's he'll come back as good as he was.

On top of that, with Dennis Allen gone, I won't rule out contending for playoffs next year. Likely? No. Possible? Absolutely. Then throw in our horrendous drafts over the last few years, and suddenly that 3rd and 6th round, eating 31 million, while replacing a top 5 CB with a maybe top 30 at best, doesn't sound so appealing.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Latt stays more healthy then we've seen this season and last. If it was possible to exaggerate an injury, I would do it too under Dennis Allen.
