That Derek Carr Contract is Looking Pretty Brilliant Now

So you think I have tons of Saints film on my laptop, including film from practices? Yeah sure. I can't mathamatically prove the earth goes around the sun but it does. The throw to Olave was a bad throw.

My point is more that he makes a lot of mistakes a Pro Bowler making $50M shouldn't and the team will never win unless the roster around him is really good. If we moved Carr to say the Dolphins he would probably look pretty good there as the talent around him is good and he'd generally not have to dodge a pass rush. Playing for our team with our Oline, he will never be able to raise the level of the players around him.
I don’t think the throw to Olave was a bad throw persay a lot of us are ignoring the defender in that situation the injury to Olave was on him.

I disagree that Carr got Olave hurt, but what I do agree with is Carr makes some bad decisions.

He is marginally better than Mason Rudolph. Sure he can play well and win games if everything is perfect and that’s just not what you want out of a QB you’re paying like a franchise QB. His teammates need to play well in order to elevate his play. That is the reverse of what you expect and what you want to occur. His play should be elevating the play of the other players on offense. Having a franchise QB you lock a ton of money into is and should be a roster multiplier. The QB’s play, quickly decision making and accuracy should turn OK WR’s into good pass catchers. Take Burrow for example and look at Mike Gesicki. Is he really any better than Juwan Johnson? Maybe, but probably not. Burrow is able to get the ball on him in a good spot for him to make the grab. He is turning an average TE into a good TE. Carr too often gets the throw to his target but it’s not really in a spot where they can do much with it. Worse yet it is behind them or low so they are slowing to catch it or moving their eyes which does put his pass catchers at risk.

None of this matters a hill of beans because we are stuck with him for the foreseeable future. The best we can do is fix the line and get him a few more seconds to be more accurate with the ball. He is better than Winston, Haener and Rattler. He does know where to go most of the time and outside of when he gets rattled he makes decent decisions. He just needs to be more accurate on ball placement, but at 10 plus years in I think he kind of is what he is.
