How Conflicted Are You In Winning or Getting a Better Draft Pick
When your current QB isn't going to take you to the Super Bowl and your in the market for a young QB to take the reigns, and your 2-7 and season over, I feel like it's poor planning not to play for a high draft pick that could change the next decade of your team's success.
Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Matt Leinhart, Ryan Leaf, Todd Marinovich, Johnny Manziel, Art Schliter, Heath Schuler, Vince Young, Jake Locker and Brady Quinn, among others, were all considered “can’t miss” QBs. All rated significantly higher than any 2024 QB. All were busts.
The Saints need help everywhere pretty much. And in fact, because of the potential Haener and Rattler (with more experience), and even Carr (surrounded by a better team) all have, QB is one of our deeper positions, believe it or not. Tanking is NEVER a good idea because it’s all a 50/50 crapshoot at best. If anything, this needs to be a finish the best you can and then trade down in the draft kinda of year. There is absolutely no reason at this point to believe Ward, Gabriel, Dart, Howard, Rourke, Sanders, Milroe, Evers, Nussmeier or Allar are better, or even have a chance to be better at this point, than any of the numerous busts ranked above. Nothing personal, but you concept has no basis to be plausible in any way, shape or form.
