Elon Musk makes $43 Billion offer for private buyout of Twitter

Threads and Bluesky are full of arrival announcements.

These tend to happen in waves, there have been several so far (Gaza, when Elon amplified anti-migrant violence in the UK, and now the election have been the largest I have seen).

The data all suggest a significant migration away from X and a dramatic loss of revenue at X but there’s still a large and active user base there. It’s probably most likely a fracturing of the space rather than zero sum with one winner.

Yeah, all this will be is a fragmentation of the existing Twitter user base. The MAGA crowd still stay. The others will go to Blue Sky, but the moderation tools there are bound to just create an even worse echo chamber with arguably a more limited reach than Twitter originally had.

This whole social media format is a relic of a bygone era. Blue Sky will be a lifeboat for those fleeing Twitter but will never come close to being as influential as Twitter was as it's peak. And Twitter/X is a dead platform walking.
