Is Head Coaching a full-time job?

Most coaches rise through the ranks by working on every side of the ball so they are head coaches because they know how to operate a team, I think that coaches who have made a name for themselves doing one things may struggle more often than not than a head coach who came up in the ranks as he is more capable of hiring and managing a staff where as a coordinator relies on his staff to make him look good.
That's not correct. Almost every HC and especially the good ones come up on one side of the ball.
