Had to say goodbye to my dog today
Lost one earlier this year and today found out my remaining one needs surgery for a mass
Oh man, good luck with that. I lost my boy last year not quite a week after having a mass removed. We first noticed it when he turned 7, it was about the size of a golf ball on the side of his right shoulder. By the time he turned 10 it was bigger than a baseball, and we decided we should go ahead and get it removed while he was still strong and healthy.
The procedure was on 11/30 last year and everything seemed to go fine. He finished post-op medications on 12/5, but early in the AM on 12/6 my wife woke up to find him in shock, and within about 10 minutes or so he passed.
He had apparently suffered some kind of internal hemorrhage and bled out internally. It could have been completely coincidental, or it might have been somehow related to the anesthesia, we'll never know for sure.
I do know I'll never not wonder what age he would have lived to if he hadn't of had the surgery, and honestly it weighs on me daily. He was very special, the best dog I ever had. It felt like a cruel joke to lose him like that.
