Sure, until he doesn't. You do realize that player's contracts are only good for a certain length of time, and that injury settlements are a thing in most professions. Oil riggers suffering a career ending injury usually will get an injury settlement as well. Certainly not near as much, but commensurate with their relative salaries. I have a close friend who was injured in a horrific accident offshore when a high pressure pipe burst and blew off his leg below the knee. He received a seven figure settlement and retired. Wasn't 8 or 9 figures, but still enough that he'd be ok with good financial management.
