You got a glimpse at the Saints future core… If you were paying attention

Young is the most talented DE and best pass rusher on the team. He consistently produces the most pressures most weeks. He leads the team in TFLs. He’s now T-2nd in sacks (5.5) behind Bresee (7.5).
He has 3.5 sacks in the last 5 games. I think Young will finish the season as the Saints’ sack leader.
Good DEs won’t be cheap. We can’t sign all good players at vet minimum. Young isn’t Foskey or Turner. Young will definitely get a similar salary AAV as Granderson in the 13M-15M per year range. He signed a 1 year-13M for 2024. He’s unlikely to go cheaper than that # in the next deal. Thats a relatively cheap # for a productive starting DE.

Young is producing the same stats as Granderson while 3 years younger than Granderson. He’s a premier young talent to build around for years to come.

I think all of this is true and Young is worth 13M. I also think he is a rotational DE. He had 4 games with blanks on the stat sheet. We are 0-4 when Cam Jordan get 40% or less snaps. Young seems to play best on obvious pass situations. He is not solid vs the run on a team giving up 4.9 ypc. PFF scores him 174/202 EDs vs the run. Allen had him playing 7T so he could 1 gap vs the run and was also trying to keep him from pass rushing too wide and deep like he did in Wash and SF. The other MO on Young is if he doesn't immediately win a pass rep he just gives up or waits for a play to be over.

Granderson had 8.5 sacks at RDE last year. We bounced him to LDE this year since he is the better run DE. I think giving RDE to Young instead of focusing on Granderson's development is a mistake. Even with the change Granderson has 50 tkl to Young's 25 with the same sack total.

I'd sign Chase for 13M. But, I want a 1st down run stuffer pushing him for playing time and the ability to walk away when/if he plays lazy and undisciplined.
