Rizzi, Rattler, '25, measured expectations

completely understand that pov
but I have 2 concerns
you get a coach who wants to win - obviously - but each coach has a type of way they play/win (and maybe a few variations of that preference)
right now the nature of the team is too ambiguous - and no QB (without a good sense of what QB will be available when we have QB money) and (with the doubts on Olave) maybe no major assets on O
Major focus on Oline is only thing that makes sense to me (and the thing that we can reasonably accomplish this offseason)
we get that line then we can figure out what kind of coach we want/need

The concern I have with that is that you then shoehorn yourself into only being able to hire guys that run a certain system. They just need to hire the best coach then can and let him build the team the way he wants to build it. Anything else and you either have to hire a guy based on the scheme he runs even if you don't think he's a the best HC or you hire the best head coach and maybe have to start all over again.

The other issue is I think we need to hire a HC who is good at talent evaluation because I think that is key to building up the roster. Regardless of what you think of Loomis, this team and any NFL team works best with a HC that is good at picking players and a GM that goes out to get him the players he wants. You won't have that situation with an intentionally 1 year hire.

You let the new HC resolve those ambiguities. Maybe he wants to rip the band-aid off and suck for a year or possible two after cutting Carr, Demario, etc. Maybe he wants to trade up for Sanders or Ward. Maybe he wants to keep Carr. You have to let your new HC make those decision and it can't be a one year guy because all those moves have ramifications well past just one year because they can create dead cap for future years and because those are positions you need to replace.

Basically, being an NFL head coach, particularly for a rebuilding team, requires a long range plan and you can't have that with a guy you hire for one year.
