Odds of Rizzi Getting Permanent Job and, If So, What Type of Contract

Has there been any report that Rizzi wants the job? He was a HC at two short small colleges, and he interviewed for the Dolphins job in 2018 after 8 years there but Flores was hired, and he did not retain Rizzi. Payton hired him in 2019.

VERDICT: UNKNOWN

No one knows what Gayle may have committed to Rizz when she promoted him. Such as, you're guaranteed a spot on the staff if they hire new.

VERDICT: UNKNOWN AND HYPOTHETICAL

The way this works is Loomis should have a short list already. If he has a top guy, and a backchannel, the hiring could happen quickly. The outreach and interview period starts the Wednesday after the season ends. However, Loomis' short list will surely have asst coaches in the playoffs, so the timing may get delayed.

Like others, I see Rizz as a fallback if Loomis can't get his guy, or, the organization chooses to ride 1 more year with Rizz to move the deadcap hell and the Carr contract clock forward, and get in another draft class and soft free agents. This would mean Kubiak is retained, which I'm for. But the conventional wisdom is that a new coach is hired, and Rizz and Kooooobs are gone.

VERDICT: UNKNOWNS ARE UNKNOWN

There are multiple reports that Rizzi wants the job. In fact, he pretty much so said he wants the job and was campaigning for it in his last press conference. What special teams coach would not want a head coach job?

And it would be dumb to hire a head coach thinking that you are only keeping him for one year.
