Would love to see Rizzi get more wins, but we need highest slot in the draft we can get.
Honest question, what is it about Rizzi that has you campaigning for him? Im asking because I want to know what people see in him that isnt just Dennis Allen on Pixy Stix. No shade, Id just like to know where its coming from or what he brings that I might be missing.
Well, I think of the 10 coaches hired in 2022 5 remain and only 3(Bowles, McDaniel, Hackett) aren't on the hot seat. Pederson will potentially be fired once the season ends and who knows what happens to Dabol. So you're looking at a 30% chance that the guy you'll hire will retain that position in 3 years.
The Saints have a middle of the road roster, with some aging pieces and an average QB situation(though Carr has been a top 6 QB this year). Draft capital isn't premium , but salary cap restraints won't allow for the next head coach to truly transform the roster like was done in 2006.
For reference Payton brought in 30 new players including FA, Draft class, and trades in 2006. He was able to mold the roster to his liking.
The next HC will be a bit limited and will be forced to work w/ the current roster + a few additions. He'll be tasked w/ elevating the current roster more than overhauling it. Which, funny enough makes the whole "overhaul" thing everyone is wanting virtually impossible until we clear the cap and get rid of some veterans. Which isn't happening for at least one more year.
There's a 30% chance you can do better than Rizzi and there's a 70% chance you can do worse. I see his floor as being no worse than the other guys that got fired, but his ceiling being higer than say a Todd Bowles. More importantly he fits as a guy that can work within the current constraints of the organization.
