Where was Kendre Miller in the Packers game?? [Rizzi says game flow of falling behind changed Miller’s touches]
Rizzi had a really bad day against the Packers...
Agreed. It was an absolute disaster from a coaching perspective. I thought poor decisions were made by Rizzi even before kickoff. I was absolutely baffled by the decision to defer receiving the ball until the 2nd half. We had a rookie QB playing in one of the toughest environments in the NFL. I just don't understand the idea of giving Green Bay the ball first and allowing them to have an opportunity to score on the first possession of the game forcing Rattler and the Saints offense into "catch up" mode the entire game. Sure ultimately the Packers likely would have taken the lead in early in the 1st half had the Saints had the ball first, but it still would have allowed for a more balanced game plan on offense for a longer period of time.
Then Rizzi's incompetence during the 1st half "2 minute drill" was maybe the worst I've ever seen in almost 30 years of watching football. On back to back plays, he failed to call a timeout until a ton of time went off the clock. We wasted almost an entire minute on 2 plays due to his failure to call timeouts and in doing so limited the play calls for Rattler and our offense to effectively drive down the field to get on the scoreboard before half time. This could have "gotten us back in the game" going into half time as we would have gotten the ball back to start the 2nd half. I'm sure we still would have lost, but it may have at least been a little more competitive with better coaching.
Not sure if this was a Rizzi or a Kubiak decision, but to essentially take Kendre Miller out of the game for most of the 2nd half in favor of Jordan Mims was also an absolute headscratcher. I've seen some comments that it may have been due to Miller's pass blocking. Mims offered nothing in that regard. While also dropping like 3 passes. Sure the passes weren't super well thrown, but all of them were catchable. I also thought when Mims did actually catch the ball, he offered almost nothing after the catch. Miller has at least shown he can make a defender miss or run through a defender. Mims basically was an easy tackle as soon a defender was near him. Miller also caught his targets in that game and had a couple nice plays in the pass game, just didn't make sense to me to completely abandon him.
