It's much less than you realize or want to admit. And Carr didn't ask for recognition. The NFL does this because it makes them look good to have players doing good things. Even if some people are unable to give someone credit for doing a nice thing.

And even if someone wants recognition for the good things they do, it doesn't change the fact that someone else is better off for them having done it. I doubt the families he spent $45K on begrudge him if he gets a little recognition. In fact, I would bet they think he deserves some recognition.
