It ties in with the 'all in' philosophy they ran with throughout the Loomis/SP era. Why draft for later when you want to win now? Of course, we can see what that's subsequently cost the franchise.

I think once Brady was not an option, Payton thought Winston or Taysom could succeed Brees. Obviously, he was wrong. Although I do often wonder what both of them would have turned into had they both not gotten hurt at the worst times.
