Zack Baun: Top Graded LB / DPOTW [Why Baun Isn’t Still a Saint Thread]

I'm not so sure about your first statement...
Werner sideline to sideline coverage isn't great so far.
He makes way to many tackles facing away from the line of scrimmage instead of in front of him...

A great example of this is the recent GB game.
He & DD led the team in tackles but the Packers rushed for 188 yards in the game.

Our LB don't make a lot of tackles at the line of scrimmage anymore.
Some of this is our DL getting pushed off of the ball & some of it is our LBs just not cutting off the running lanes.

As far as switching to the 3-4. Most fans have been clamoring for that D for awhile now.
Since you can run more variations out of it it would help us keep teams off balance more than the 4-2-5 that we use 90% of the time...
Davis and Werner are the starters, right?

The only alignment shift to make would have been from four down linemen to three. Which opens up either a 3-3-5 or a 3-4, and since Turner/Foskey aren’t three-down-linemen DEs, you have to re-orient to 3-4 so that they can stand up as OLBs in a platoon for each other. Going to a 3-3-5 wastes two roster spots. And then we’d have to see if Baun would be any good at the second level behind a less-talented front three, which was also not originally intended to play as such.

And the team would be doing this all for the guy whose highlight was that he caught an INT and fumbled it.

I’m just not sure how far back into the Redo Machine one would have to go to make this all work. It doesn’t matter at this point. It’s not a failure or an indictment of anyone. There were better veterans here and he chose to take less money for a chance to start. Good for him.
