There are steel street closure mechanisms that don't work because the city bailed on the maintenance contract. This was preventable and is really embarrassing.
I would wonder where's the pressure from the businesses in the French Quarter prior? I understand the statement may or may not be true or accurate but there's this way we have of making great decisions like this only when disaster strikes.
