You're right. He did not live up to expectations. I think I was his biggest critic. But he still served a massive purpose. He was an amazing decoy which helped take pressure off of Brees while he continued to get use to his reconstructed shoulder and create a consistent environment that allowed Brees to develop confidence. It's just odd because it was done in an unusual way, but if defenses blitzed, Bush was there for the dump off to make them pay and his skill set was still incredibly dangerous once he got the ball in space.
You don't land that kind of talent in mid-late rounds even at RB, and if you do, congratulations you found a Unicorn.
And to be fair to Bush, as soon as he switched to offensive zone run blocking scheme in Miami, he started looking more like his USC self. So we have to ask ourselves, how much of his disappointment here in NO was the coaching scheme fault. Mark Ingram was garbage in our blocking scheme as well until we switched to a zone blocking scheme in 2013. Our blocking scheme may be way Bush didn't have success in running plays but was profoundly dangerous on dump off passes, screens and splitting out wide.
