It's a shame, but I think unless he's willing to take a role player paycut, it doesn't make sense to keep him as he inexorably declines in the defensive backfield 40+ snaps a game.

Yeah we'd have two safety positions to fill -- but we already have two safety positions to fill. I rather a young safety have a year to gain experience next year than squeeze the last few drops out of a dead-end safety who will not be contributing to a super bowl team as a starter again in his career.
