Doesn’t matter at this point in the game but, VT just made a very long play down field and the clock never stopped for the first down. Does that only apply for end of a half? I thought it was every time you get a first down. Ther was less than a minute left in the first quarter.

it's supposed to be stopped until the official places the ball down

In college football, the clock stops on a first down during the last two minutes of the second and fourth quarters. However, the clock runs after a first down is gained in bounds for the rest of the game
