For anyone who says Carr is just a stat padder and don’t win:
You cut him post June 1 and you eat a lot of dead money in 25 then 26 is almost completely clear.
Post June 1 = 21.5 dead. 30 MM in savings. Off in 26
Carr is a massive contract liability but will likely be on the roster next season.
The Saints don't get to enjoy "$30M in cap savings" by releasing him, because they are so maxed out in dead money already, and they are saddled with the unresolved contracts of other late-career or career-ending vets.
They can't keep absorbing the short term pain of vet releases and out-the-door restructures. Loomis has proven he is not capable of building or managing a competitive roster without the money he already spent on averaging just 7 wins the past 4 seasons. Injuries only amplify this fact, not mask it.
Carr's not Stafford, who was recruited as the last piece of the puzzle for the Rams, who already had a coach, defense, and system in place. The other dudes Darnold, Mayfield, Smith, etc... have proven nothing beyond they are currently decent regular season QB's.
"Making it happen" has been replaced by "Now killing us three seasons in advance!"
