Payton did interview with the Raiders even though Parcells advised him not to take the job. And he didn't sit out two cycles even though we weren't the perfect situation. He wanted the Packers job but still took this one when he didn't get it.

The biggest difference is that Ben Johnson is coaching a NFC 1 seed and has a serious chance to make and win a Super Bowl. Sean Payton was coaching a 3rd place in the East Cowboys team that missed the playoffs. Funny enough, Aaron Glenn was on that Cowboys team.
