Up until this point I have been anti-Gruden.
The team needs a massive youth movement that goes for players and coaches. Gruden as a washed up, has been, retread coach doesn't give you that. His only asset was he can motivate. The decade in the booth left him out of touch with today's player, so he doesn't even bring that to the table. Gruden as a coach is just not good and arguably never was. He is a poor choice and if hired I wouldn't expect much.
All that said he may be our only option.
Reading the tea leaves in reports, comments and articles tell me we may well have no choice but to hire him. Our options may be few and sadly provides the most bang for the buck.
Our cap situation, aging roster and massive amount of players coming off major injuries will leave us we with serious issues getting a decent hire. Now, that may be something money CAN buy! If we were to give a coach say a fully guaranteed deal (most if not all are that) for say a 5 year period maybe we could get a decent hire but we are gonna have to pay premium.
Honestly, this rebuild is going to take so long the 2 coach hire may be the play to make. A guy like Gruden would be a decentish hire in that situation. He can come in with his phoney rah rah chew glass nonsense while the rebuild is underway and likely after a season or two he can be replaced by our next forever coach.
It’s not a great situation to be in but in a few seasons time will be in better shape.
The better choice is to just pay whoever we want stupid money. If we can pay people not even on the roster 30 mill why not pay stupid money to whoever we want as a coach or maybe take a chance on an unknown and hope it works out like Payton.
