None of the people we are interviewing, are going to factor that in. If you are 2-7, 18-25 in this division with the gift schedules he had, rarely if ever beat a team with a winning record and were 25-53 overall, you deserved to be fired. Zero of the candidates are going to factor that in.

There you go comparing DA and Payton, and thats where I check out. Payton went to a NFCCG in year 1 and won a SB in year 4. Allen wasnt winning a SB next year.

Yeah, the records were similar, but Payton’s record and field results just felt different.

You could always just tell the whole time that we had something special brewing, with an offensive mastermind that kept having us in the top 3 of offense rankings, and we just needed to be patient until we got the defense right.

Even the 2014-2016 lull felt that way…like we had a really good team but just needed to wait for the final piece or two for the chemistry to come together again.

You can tell when you’re watching a good coach who is just having team misfortunes versus a bad coach who he himself is making his team worse and not running a sound program.
