Have you ever seen how over time a person hanging out with people will tend to develope similar traits as the group they hang out with? It’s a fact of life. Take a Yankee and move them south they will start sounding different, using some of the same words and speech sounds.
I say this because coaches are no different. Older coaches will tend to do some of the same dance moves and sing some of the same songs as his younger players. They also use some of the same words and phrases. We all know black athletes will call others their N! If a coach is well liked and fits in he may use the word also but as a form of love for his brothers. I think this is why Gruden has never been accused as a racist.
