Loomis: Next Saints Head Coach will decide their own staff and direction at Quarterback

If we're actually trying to be somewhat competitive next year, we're keeping Carr. None of the QB's in this draft will outplay him year 1, and we can't afford to sign anyone better. Even if you have a true offseason competition between Rattler and Carr, and Rattler wins the battle, you need a serviceable backup as we all know. It's easy as fans to say "who cares, let's get a top draft pick in 2026", but the reality is that there are players, coaches, and executives that are all trying to win and retain their jobs. Carr isn't a franchise QB, but he's good enough to keep the ship somewhat steady during a transitional year for a new coach. He's played pretty well more often than not when he's had decent protection and weapons available to throw to, especially with Kubiak calling plays. The truth is, given what starting QB's are getting paid these days, Carr has played well enough to justify the value of his contract. He shouldn't be willing to accept a pay cut.

Carr will be on this team going into next season. Book it.
