As an example of this, Neil Gaiman was known by everybody to be banging anything that moved on the con circuit. It was not a secret. People talked about how he had "harems" in various cities. He had goth groupies throwing themselves at him.
Now he's essentially been cancelled because those sexcapades have been brought to light and several women have accused him of sexual assault. Also just really gross and creepy power dynamic stuff. The stories are unpleasant.
Those days of cons are over.
