Saints expected to be very interested in former Packers/Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [Rapoport: Interview to be early next week]

Did you even read my post? Because it was all about how McCarthy's success was a decade ago with prime Aaron Rodgers while Payton has had much more recent playoff success. I do not think McCarthy is on Payton's level as a coaching talent when the variables are equal today, which is what matters to me. Not accolades from the early 2010s.

Those three-year stretch Dallas teams were loaded with talent. People can cope by saying they weren't, but they were.

I don't know what you guys want me to say. I don't like that McCarthy is 61, isn't the type of personality that someone like Sean is, and hasn't had notable playoff success in a decade. People are welcome to disagree. I just don't like him as a candidate.
I read what you stated. If McCarthy’s success is a decade ago, then so is Sean Payton’s.

In his last 5 seasons, McCarthy has three 12-win seasons, three division titles, and advanced in the playoffs once during one of those 3 winning seasons. In Payton’s last 5 seasons, before and after 2024, he has 3 winning seasons, 3 division titles, and one advancement in the playoffs.

Those seasons can’t be dismissed because media overhypes Dallas to go to the SB. Dallas’ talent isn’t an automatic winning machine who can be coached by anyone like many pretend that they are. McCarthy developed many of Dallas’ offensive players, like he did with Aaron Rodgers. He’s the reason behind Dallas’ 12 win seasons, as well as all of the playoff results.

His playoff criticisms are valid. But it’s just not accurate that he hasn’t been successful in a decade. Or that he was just coaching loaded teams. If we’re going by SB/conference championship or bust standards, most coaches aren’t successful, including all of the Saints’ HC candidates.
