I wish I could make this point easier to understand. It makes sense when you have a lot talent on the team. For a long time, the Saints had great talent on the team. I'd say even as recently as last year. It's only looked horrible because the Saints had an obvious deficit at head coach. The head coaching issue is being resolved but the team is much older now. It's time to shed contracts.
The strategy works when there is talent and the team is contending. That is no longer the case. They can now beginning shedding dead money.
Saving cap space for the sake of saving cap space at the risk of losing talent is STUPID. Cap space has never and will never win a Super Bowl. When you no longer have talent, get the dead money on the books. The strategy works. The Saints biggest fault is not knowing when to let a loyal veteran go. And let me tell you guys, that fault really makes an impression on potential players who value teams that stand behind their best players.
For the life of me, I don't understand fans that want the team to take the approach that has mired bad teams in mediocrity for so long. It doesn't work. We know what the Saints do work. Let them shed dead money and begin to add talent again. The Saints will be fine. Years upon years of salary cap space is my personal nightmare because it means the Saints are letting their best players walk and are not signing good free agents. Why are so many people pining for that???
