That's incorrect--about McCarthy hiring him. Moore went straight from the field, to QB coach in 2018 and promo'd to OC and play caller in 2019 (while McCarthy was sitting out)...In his first season as offensive coordinator in 2019, Moore guided the Cowboys to the NFL's top-ranked offensive attack (431.5 ypg) while ranking second in passing offense (296.9 ypg) and fifth in rushing offense (134.6 ypg). Prescott finished second in the NFL with a career-high 4,902 passing yards (second-most in franchise history) and fourth with a career-high 30 passing touchdowns. The unit also featured running back Ezekiel Elliott, who logged the second-most scrimmage yards (1,777) and fourth-most rushing yards (1,357) in the NFL, and Cooper, whose breakout campaign included career highs in receiving yards (1,189) and receiving touchdowns (eight).
Big Mike was hired after that and Jerry basically wasn't about to just let Moore walk. Moore runs the ball plenty when he has the personnel--see Saquon this year or several other examples over the years in Dallas. He's a very good candidate imo, checks plenty of boxes--even if Mick might not know him that well...
